Acquainted with the Night

Technology hates me :(

Okay, so today my computer caught some sort of virus from a facebook app (one of the VERY FEW I've used... go figure) and decided to die to the point where it doesn't even access windows upon being turned on.

This has sent me into a panic spiral that, for a good hour and a half, included lots of cursing, punching the air, and uncontrolled sobbing. This is the third time my computer has pulled something like this, in the approximate 5 years I've had it. I began to back up my files after last winter, when it blue-screened, but haven't done this since the summer.

So basically there is the possibility that I will have once again lost all of my crap. My precious computer crap like documents and pictures and-- and my Photoshop files of my comic. And everything else I've drawn. You can see where I'm coming from with the whole panic spiral.

I have a comic already uploaded for tomorrow, but not the next week-- though I was literally TWO SECONDS OF WORK FROM FINISHING with the next page. I feel ill. I don't know what to tell you guys. I don't even know if everything is recoverable or what, and won't know for another 4-5 days. I'll keep you posted, though. And please keep your fingers crossed that at the very least I get my data back... I don't even mind shelling out the money for a new computer, although I've just bought a new(ish) iPod and have to pay for the diagnostics/repairs. I just want those files. :( :( :( :( :(

UPDATE 2 HOURS LATER: So my parents surprised me by giving me my Christmas present early-- a brand new MacBook Pro laptop. I started crying all over again. I'll keep you posted on the status of my files... but at least I don't have to deal with my 5 year old Gateway Windows XP anymore. Ever....

there's a mac program called drive saver 2 that is pretty good at getting files off a hard drive that wont' mount. It completely looses any sort of folder structure but it may be worth a shot.

Thanks Adam! I actually need to update this post, as the tech guys have successfully salvaged all of my files :) I'd guess they used a similar technology. My computer is also being wiped and Windows re-installed, as it apparently caught a pretty nasty virus. But my files are SAFE, and I'm glad for it! I still need to transfer them to a mac and reinstall the programs I need, of course, but at least it's not as terrible as it could have been. Whew.
